I think most people he are saddened by ANYONE being killed like this regardless of their beliefs..not all...but most. I know I will be praying for all those families that are involved in the shooting...All of America for that matter.

Every time a tragedy like this occurs, you can count on the gun crowd to shout down any rational discussion with their wailing rhetoric about the Constitution and the Founding Fathers and their endless misrepresentations of historical fact.
I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem likely the assailant in this case was acting as part of a well-ordered militia.
Short of disarming the citizenry, surely we could make it MUCH more difficult than it is for anyone to purchase a gun without careful screening; if, when kids turned 16, we said:" wait 2 weeks while we check to be sure you're not on our rather sketchy and incomplete list of criminal psycho's", and then handed them an irrevokable lifetime drivers' license, the public would be rightly outraged. Instead, we insist on training and supervision, and on periodic reviews of skills, aptitude and competence.
Of course, the NRA crowd don't seem to care how much innocent blood is spilled, and so long as they and their well-heeled lobbyists continue to buy the votes in Washigton that's not likely to change!

Charlie has a good point here, on life-time review of gun safety skills, in a similar format to drivers tests. Might even be able to screen for depression/gun suicide. Won't help much for someone on a slow-boil though.

Accepted, My point was that sometimes the news gives race info, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes what info is given is sufficient for us to make an assumption that is not necessarily accurate.
But the truth is that an individuals race does not matter, it is what the individual does that matters.

Much of the "Wild"west was exaggerated through legend and television. The most famous gunfight in the American west was in Tombstone AZ. It lasted 13 seconds. Most television shows the sheriff in a gunfight with the desperado. This rarely happened and when it did it was a point blank range. Like today the criminal element were the ones killing people. There were very few if any open fighting in the streets. The only ones that come to mind were in Lincoln County NM with Billy the Kid and the other was in Wisconsin with the James/Younger gang. People carried their guns on their hip for self defense. More people did not carry guns than those who did. You have been watching too many westerns to get your information. As much as I hate to admit it John Wayne was an actor not a real gunfighter.
